The American Water Spaniel originated in the USA

American Water Spaniels are 15-18 inches (36-46 cm.)

American Water Spaniels weigh 25-45 pounds (11-20 kg.)

Colors:

American Water Spaniels may be liver or chocolate – sometimes with a small white spot on the chest.

Coat:

The naturally oily coat of the American Water Spaniel should be brushed twice a week. This dog breed should only be bathed as necessary in order to avoid drying out their skin.

Temperament:

Sweet-tempered and highly trainable, American Water Spaniels are easy going and love to swim and roam. They have been known to snap when startled, but this highly intelligent breed gets along nicely with children and small non-canine pets.

Health Concerns:

American Water Spaniels are generally healthy but are sometimes prone to skin problems.

Life Expectancy:

The American Water Spaniel can be expected to live up to about 12-15 years.

Living Environment:

Primarily used for flushing out fowl then retrieving it for its owner, the American Water Spaniel is an active breed that requires daily exercise.
